Gaming Should Be Treated More Like A Sport

Competitive gaming is a rather popular front in the modern age and people can come from far and wide to compete in gaming tournaments worth a million dollars or more, but the trouble is, it's as much a sport as so much other stuff in the world, competitive gaming just isn't treated as such, even though it rightfully deserves to be.
I just can't wait for the day when we'll be able to catch action like this on our TV channels,  and with full commentaries too.
The reason I come to say this is because I've recently been addicted to popular the free online RTS 'League of Legends,' and the LoL Season 3 tournament just recently started, so that's great right? Sure, but not great enough. Take a look at football for example, just here in England we've got four leagues with about 20 teams each and an even grater number of players, you can see it all the time on one of the many TV sports channels, and the way leagues are split up give the very good but weaker players a chance to play and compete for titles, but when it comes to season 3 of League, there are only 8 teams, and of course it's only the best of the best who get to compete in it, and that just leaves the rest of the exceptional players who couldn't quite make it in out of the limelight, and it's even sadder still when there are people who can't compete in MLG tournaments and the like despite being very good, purely because they're not quite in with the circle or are lucky enough to meet someone who is.
We want to see more of this on a global scale!
So look, the way I see it, is that as gaming is becoming more and more popular, it deserves to be more like a sport, teams competing against each other in a variety of games with large league tables, with fans and everything, I mean, sports stars get all the fame and a ridiculous amount of money for running around on a piece of grass for 90 minutes, so why can't we, the gaming population get the same respect, just because we were gifted with a different kind of talent?
See? All the ladies love a competitive gamer! And hey what's to say they couldn't join in my GGL (Great Gaming League)!
Basically what I'm saying is that gaming needs a competitive field for the great players that don't spend hours every day on the same game perfecting techniques, give the good but lesser players a chance for some fun too, because I speak from experience when i say there is nothing more thrilling than competing in a really competitive gaming tournament.
Football, not only is it on the TV all the time, it even gets games made of it, and they're fun to compete in online in the in game tournaments, just think how awesome it would be if most games had league tables and stuff just like it.
