Making the Most of Sports Games

As the Olympics have recently proven, sport is something that unites men, women and children the world over, so it's only natural there are a lot of Sports games out there to further bring the world together (or at least people and their favorite sportspeople) when the sporting season is over. From the realistic play of Fifa Football and PES to the more family orientated worlds of 'Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games', the Sports game franchises remains one of the most prominent, but at the same time, the real world causes problems.
There are many gimmik based sports games out there, like the Japanese RPG-themed Inazuma Eleven,  which involves characters with superpowers playing football
You can forget about gimmicky titles like Inazuma Eleven here, I'm focusing on all the realistic stuff, Fifa, PES, NBA, NHL, etc. The thing about these games is how they update, a new one comes out ever year for each of these titles, with the only changes being slightly more realistic gameplay and a slightly adjusted team lineup in connection with the events of the Transfer windows. We've all seen it before, you're looking through your local GAME store or even any given charity shop and there's a whole shelf of Preowned Fifa 2003-2009 games just sitting there, with a 99p price tag, begging to be bought, but you don't want them, not when your favourite team would have players you despise because they've moved to a rival team (*cough*VanPersie*cough*), and new favourite players aren't in the game! The point is that a completely new game isn't needed every year because all the changes are so minor.

(As a side note, if you're looking to trade in your game and make money, the best time to do it is about a year and a half after release, before it's so old it's only worth 25p to GAME stores, but not so new that you can barely play it)
Next time you visit a GAME store or charity shop, count how many of these you see for 99p in the PS2 section, answers on a postcard please.
So what should be happening? Well to be honest, developers like EA should stop being so damn greedy and give us a copy of 'Ultimate Fifa Football' for once, it'd be like any Fifa game, 13 as that's the latest, and when the next season comes around, and all the players have changed and updated mechanics, graphics and realism have been employed, a download becomes available which you can use to install all these new updates and adjust the roster for every team in the game for a small fee, it's much better than forking out a whole £40 EVERY YEAR for a new game, and stops all the old redundant copies nobody wants cluttering our shelves. It could happen, but only if EA decide to be less greedy and more practical.

So what about all these old outdated sport games? Well it's simple really, since after buying the latest version they have no replay value, instead of having them clutter up the shelves in our stores or our bedrooms, why don't we just recycle them? Instead of trying to sell them to the public from charity shops, why don't we give them to the sick kids the charities work for? They'd love that! If that doesn't work, string them together and use the backs to make a shiny Christmas decoration! it's so much more economical!
Now isn't that beautiful? Wouldn't you love to put all those old disused Sports games to use like this?
